MacIntyre Against Modernity: What kinds of speech are intolerable, and why?

  • The Morningside Institute 91 Claremont Avenue Floor 11 New York, NY, 10027 United States (map)

Communities regularly debate rival courses of action, and Americans place a high value on the freedom of speech in such debates. MacIntyre, however, argues that we should not tolerate speech that interferes with the goal of the debate: discovering what’s good for the community as a whole. Join Morningside for a conversation with philosopher Dan Addison on what kind of speech this is, and what the limits of tolerance might be.

This seminar is the second meeting of our Fall 2024 series, MacIntyre Against Modernity.

Please RSVP as lunch will be served.
