Augustine of Hippo’s Confessions have shaped the history of Western philosophy, theology, psychology, and literature. We will read through this great work in its entirety over lunch, from the stolen pears of Augustine’s youth to his meditations on time and eternity.
On Friday, November 7, at 1 PM, join Dr. Nathaniel Peters (Morningside) and Mr. David Oakley for a reading group on the entirety of Augustine’s Confessions. For the third session, we read Books IX–X from Henry Chadwick’s translation.
This reading group is co-sponsored by the Thomas Merton Institute at Columbia. Lunch will be provided, and copies of the book are available to participants.
