At the end of his career Giuseppe Verdi returned to his love of Shakespeare, but changed directions and for his last work he produced comedic opera adaptation of Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor. Falstaff became a controversial work and its departure from Verdi’s traditional style raises concerns about artistic legacy and experimentation.
